The Express Entry System is the fastest route for skilled workers from across the world to achieve permanent residence (PR) in Canada. There are three different categories or ‘streams’ under this system, of which the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is the most accessible and popular stream. To be eligible for the FSWP, candidates must pass the initial point test, and also achieve a sufficient score under the Canada PR eligibility calculator.
First, FSWP aspirants must score at least 67 points based on the following selection factors:
• English/French language proficiency – Maximum 28 points
• Academic Qualifications – Maximum 25 points
• Work Experience – Maximum 15 points
• Age – Maximum 12 points
• Canadian Job Offer – Maximum 10 points (Having a job offer from a Canadian employer is not one of the mandatory Canada PR requirements, it simply adds to your point score)
• Adaptability Factors – Maximum 10 points
Those who satisfy the point test can submit an online Expression of Interest (EOI). Each candidate will receive a point score based on the point allocation criteria of the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). EOIs are ranked in the pool based on their point score and date of submission. Through fortnightly draws, the highest-scoring candidates who meet the point cut-off – which changes with every draw – are invited to submit a Canada PR application.
This two-step merit-based selection process ensures that the most highly qualified candidates who have the greatest potential for economic success in Canada are granted permanent residence. Scoring high on the Canada PR eligibility calculator i.e. the CRS, is essential for receiving an invitation to apply for PR.
